Tanz im August is one of Europe’s most important showcases for contemporary dance and the largest annual festival of its type in Germany. In two and a half weeks, new works from the international dance scene are shown at numerous Berlin venues.

The aim of the festival is to present different presentation formats and dance styles in order to reach different audiences and scenes. The spread of venues allows for the placement of artistic works in appropriate theater spaces.

Tanz im August places special emphasis on an expanded concept of dance, a critical approach to current trends in contemporary dance and a commitment to Berlin by cooperating with the city’s various partners.

The program is made up of guest performances and co-productions that are accompanied by a special public relations strategy: dance workshops, lectures and discussions with the audience create a communicative atmosphere. They make the festival an important meeting place for dance-interested Berlin residents and tourists as well as for artists and professionals.
